Clear and Accurate Swallowing Diagnoses
If you’re experiencing difficulty swallowing, chronic heartburn, or regurgitation, it can be frustrating not knowing the cause. An esophagram, guided by fluoroscopy, offers real-time imaging of your esophagus, helping to identify structural issues like narrowing, reflux, or obstructions. This non-invasive procedure gives your healthcare provider a detailed view of your swallowing function, ensuring accurate diagnosis and the right treatment plan. At Element Medical Imaging, our advanced fluoroscopy services provide clear insights into your digestive health, helping you get the answers you need for a smoother recovery.
Exam Explanation
An esophagram examination of the esophagus uses barium to coat the walls of the upper digestive tract so that it may be examined under X-ray.
Exam Preparation
There is no special preparation for an esophagram.
During the Exam
The patient will be asked to drink the barium and to swallow baking soda crystals. The patient may be asked to move in different positions while the X-rays scans are taken.
